FAQ's

“I want to thank you for participating in the Jazz-Poetry Concert. We were quite successful in meeting our goals – the audience was overwhelming, much more than we could have hoped for. This meant that we could communicate the City of Asylum/Pittsburgh message in a much more effective way. But more importantly, the concert itself was thrilling – it not only sent out a message, it sent out the right message. You demonstrated as an artist that collaboration across cultures is not just possible but that it is actually energizing and elevating to the creative spirit. Feedback from people who came has been extraordinary. Thank you also for your willingness to take the risk with us and perform in our unusual setting. I appreciate what an act of trust this was. With a remarkably small group and in a very little time, we really did something important.”

 – R. Henry Reese, Chairman, City of Asylum/Pittsburgh

What can I expect at a Tim Bedner concert?

The concert will be intimate, fun, varied, informative, and audience-appropriate. Tim will share details of the music selections and about the guitar with the audience. Tim has put together a catalogue of solo guitar arrangements consisting of pieces not typically presented on solo guitar. Styles include standards, traditional folk, gospel, blues, and contemporary music. In addition to Tim’s own compositions, composers as diverse as Vince Guaraldi, Jimi Hendrix, Pat Metheny, Lennon & McCartney, Charlie Parker, Fats Waller, and Joe Zawinul are highlighted.

What workshops are offered?

We really enjoy planning and giving workshops. It's important to us to feel as if we really connect with your community, and workshops do just that. Workshops are available for children, college students, the general public, and amateur musicians. See the Concerts & Workshops page for more information.

What happens during a residency?

We're very flexible about what can be included in each residency and will work with you to design a program that is best for your community. Typical residencies might include:

One Day Residency: An afternoon workshop for students or the general public. Evening concert. A short post-concert discussion gives audience and performers a chance to interact.

Two Day Residency: First day, a morning workshop, an afternoon workshop or outreach activity, and an evening community jam session. Second day, a morning workshop, an afternoon workshop or outreach activity (or a longer workshop spanning morning and afternoon), and an evening concert, followed by a post-concert discussion. Where possible, we try to integrate workshop or jam highlights into the concert.

Three Day Residency: First day, a morning workshop, an afternoon workshop or outreach activity, and an evening workshop or outreach activity. Second day, a morning workshop, an afternoon workshop or outreach activity, and an evening community jam session. Third day, a morning workshop, an afternoon workshop or outreach activity (or a longer workshop spanning morning and afternoon), and an evening concert, followed by a post-concert discussion. Where possible, we try to integrate workshop or jam highlights into the concert.
