Tim Bedner offers
solo guitar performances at cultural facilities, festivals, educational
institutions, and other venues.
Tim has put
together a catalogue of solo guitar arrangements consisting of pieces not
typically presented on solo guitar. Styles include standards, traditional folk,
gospel, blues, and contemporary music. In addition to Tims own compositions,
composers as diverse as Vince Guaraldi, Jimi Hendrix, Pat Metheny, Lennon &
McCartney, Charlie Parker, Fats Waller, and Joe Zawinul are highlighted.
Outreach
Tim believes in
bringing the music to those who can't bring themselves to the concert. He has
performed at personal care homes, rehabilitation facilities, dinners for the
homeless and displaced, and for head-injured and coma patients. He also plays
one-on-one for people who are ill and close to death, and in hospices.
Workshops & Residencies
Tim Bedner draws on
his performance experience, his teaching experience, and his graduate-level
training to design and deliver dynamic, flexible, fun, and informative
interactive workshops. Workshops marked with an asterisk (*) are team-taught by
Tim Bedner and Elise Letourneau. The following workshops are available:

|
*Careers in Music |
Do you love music, but you're not sure if
you want to perform or teach? There are a gazillion other choices! Find
out what they are, what training is needed, what it takes, and what you
can be doing right now towards your dreams. Grades 6-8 or 9-11. |
|

Hear both the English and French lyrics of
the same songs, and compare and contrast the lyrics. Discuss what works
well, what's clunky, and what got lost in translation. Great for high
school French classes. |
|
*Shakespeare's iPod |
They're on your required reading list, and
there's not much you can do about it - but have you ever wondered what all
those authors might have been listening to if they had an iPod? What was
going on during their lives, musically-speaking? What connections might
there be between that music and the words they wrote? Grades 9-12. |
|
*American History & American Song |
A tour of contemporary American History

sustaining interest are issues that all growing musicians need to deal
with. What's on your music stand? |
|
All About Chords |

construct triads and seventh chords and their inversions. Decipher chord
symbols and learn to use the 9th, 11th, 13th, 'sus' chords, and hybrid
('slash') chords. |
|
Cracking the Rhythm Code |
One of the keys to complete musicianship,
this workshop discusses rhythmic notation, simple & compound time
signatures, beat organization and subdivision, and helps participants
recognize common rhythmic groupings. Issues surrounding the interpretation
of 'feel' will also be identified. |
|
*The Art of the Audition |

after your audition, including how to prepare, what to expect, and when to
let go. Also discusses college music auditions. |
|
For Guitarists |
Demystifying the Guitar Fretboard |
Offering a visual, string-by-string
approach, this workshop helps participants find notes more quickly and
easily and encourages them to use the whole fretboard. This, in turn,
helps improve reading, improvisation, and chord knowledge. |
House
Concerts
House concerts
(sometimes called 'living room concerts' or 'kitchen concerts') are a great way
to enjoy music in a comfortable, intimate, family-friendly atmosphere. If you
have an area large enough to seat 20 people or more and are interested in
hosting a musician or two for a listening event, a house concert could work out
really well. If you would like details on
hosting a house concert,
please send an email.
